Historically, in rural area of Nepal, men usually have more opportunities to work whereas women generally stay at home and take care of the children. Even though the potential is there for Nepali women to start a business, it is very hard for them to get support or access to loans.

From the World Bank study in 2007, no more than 26% of the population in Nepal had access to banking facilities. Therefore, by providing such opportunities of training and microloans, enables women to generate extra income for the family, move out of the poverty circle which in turn provides a better quality of life for their families, communities and enhancing their self-esteem.

There is the belief that by making women in business in the developed world aware of the endeavours of women in business in the developing world will generate an emotional connection.

Why is it that Women are the focus?
