By definition, philanthropic represents "giving" or the desire and empathy to assist others well-being and franchaising defines "replication". It is an emerging concept to broaden the scope of possible solutions to alleviate poverty.

 

"Philanthropic Franchaising is not a charity."

 

Philanthropic Franchaising is more than the giving of a donation, food, or time to those less fortunate. Its endeavours are directed at grass roots development in order to build capacity within rural communities.

 

Hands with Hands receive philanthropic support from International Friends and the organisation determines what projects become the recipients of those funds. Om Nava Udya Savings & Credit Cooperative Ltd (ONUSCCL) is the central bank located in Kathmandu.

 

ONUSCCL rural branch in Chitwan District, Nepal's services the Microfinance Cooperatives projects and is known as the Shree Nava Udya savings and credit cooperative (SNUsacc). These banks mobilize resources and provide financial support services to members of cooperatives and marginalized poor people.

 

Microfinance or microloans is the extension of small loans ranging from $50-$100 for a prospective self-employed person living in poverty to start generating a sustainable income. Contributing to the success of these projects is as follows:

 

1. HwH provides various types of training to educate, encourage and develop thinking to bring out their creativity for the development of income generating enterprises.

2. Initially women who are accessing loans have been invited into Microfinance cooperatives whose membership ranges from 25-30 people. The value of these cooperatives is that women are less exposed within a group setting. They also provide a supportive environment and determine the future loan requests of its members.

 

Being in business assist these women to move out of poverty; create a more viable future for themselves, their family, and communities.
